Closed Rhinoplasty in Dallas
Closed rhinoplasty is also known as an endonasal rhinoplasty. This Dallas nose surgery technique is "closed" in the sense that the nose does not need to be opened using an external incision to access internal structures. Internal cartilage and bone is accessed only though the nostrils, using internal or intranasal incisions.
These incisions fail to give the same level of visual exposure to the tip of the nose as an open rhinoplasty provides. As a result, the closed rhinoplasty technique has limited use, and is not right for most of Dr. Byrd's nose surgery patients.
However, because there is less disturbance to the tip with the closed approach, patients who have essentially "normal" nasal tips can benefit from this procedure. The ideal patient would have a well shaped tip and symmetric structures with overall good support. A small hump on the bridge may be the main concern. During rhinoplasty using the closed approach, a small hump on the bridge can be corrected but the other characteristics of the nose should already be close to ideal. Closed rhinoplasty cannot be used to address a nose that is too long or crooked.
